A Sudanese court convicted a British teacher this week of insulting Islam, and sentenced her to 15 days in prison, followed by deportation.

Her crime was allowing her students to name a teddy bear Muhammad.

It turns out it was at the request of a child whose name was Muhammad, and he wanted the Teddy bear named after him.

”The greatest scholar in Sudan, Dr. Hassan al-Turabi, has himself condemned this,” Khan said. “I think that’s an indication that Muslims no longer want to remain silent and do not believe in these extremist views.”

Or at least they’re aware of what this looks like to the Western world, and are taking pains to make muslims appear more reasonable.

Why were two trains on the same track at the same time?

It just seems odd that an Amtrak train would collide with a freight train on the same track.

I’m not sure what I’m going to do here…lol

At least for the short term, I’m going to attempt cross posting from here to there, or the other way around.

There is a lot of buzz out there, some folks poking fun. Others, more serious.

I’m just glad the pictures are blurred, because this must have been bloody. This is a 24-year-old woman, Sujatha Vagawanam, on a mission to kill a Sri Lankan cabinet member. First few photos show her sitting calmly in the office of the Social Services Minister Douglas Devananda, on the day he sets aside to hear complaints from members of the public. She calmly walked in, and answered questions directed to her by Devananda’s 72-year old aide, Steven Peiris. Then she blows them both up.

She wears a yellow sari and a white shawl, and puts her right arm up to her right shoulder, and apparently pulls the trigger to explode the bomb.

Personally, I’d like to know more about what triggered this. Excuse the pun.

Here’s the AP article.

She was apparently a Tamil Tiger, one of the ‘rebels’ who’ve been fighting since 1983 to create a separate homeland for Sri Lanka’s minority ethnic Tamils following decades of discrimination by governments controlled by the Sinhalese majority.

Does this sound racist to you? Why can’t they all get along?

According to the AP’s article,

The group, branded a terror organization by the U.S. and European Union, is responsible for more than 240 suicide bombings as well as scores of other deadly attacks.

They should make good candidates for the Nobel Peace Prize, then.

It is a Hindu organization, and is supposedly ‘secular’. There are differences of opinion as to whether or not they are affiliated with Al Qaeda, but their methods seem to be eerily similar.

Leave no man behind

This is a disgusting, tragic and horrific story.

Three soldiers have been relieved of duty pending an investigation into the strange death last month of Sgt. Gerald Cassidy who was found alone in his room, slumped in a chair. The autopsy revealed he’d been dead for hours before his body was discovered, and may have been unconscious for days before that.

Cassidy arrived Ft. Knox suffering blinding headaches, memory and hearing loss, and PTS.

May God be with his family and friends over the holidays, as the investigation drags on.

A battalion commander, company commander and platoon sergeant have lost privileges and been removed from the unit. What is disconcerting is that according the Army’s own rules, each injured service member in such a unit is assigned a doctor, a nurse care manager and a squad leader to manage treatment. What happened here?

Needless to say, as in the case of assigning women to combat collocated forward company units (which are supposed to be all-male), the Army doesn’t seem to be paying any attention to the ‘rules’.

Evil Knievel

Evil Knievel died on Friday, November 30. He was 69 years old.

I can remember his daredevilish adventures from the coverage of them on television. I never understood someone who would risk his life for foolishness. But this article explains it in a way that I can understand.

he toughened up a generation of kids made soft by too much Brady Bunch. Awkward role model, leering boozehound, gravity-bound astronaut; the Patron Saint of Testosterone has finally caught Supreme Air. So please, show some respect.

Now that GI Joe is morphing into something other than a Special Forces Soldier – he’s now a UN type World Police or some such rot…I look back at a man like Evil Knievel and wonder if there is a modern day counterpart, or if that softness that the reader refers to has finally settled in as a mainstay of our culture.

“General” Gay Keith, the Clinton plant, was not a Brigadier General, but a reservist.

So we have another one to add to the list.

Jimmy Massey

Jesse MacBeth

Scott Beauchamp

Gay Keith Kerr

Kerr, according to Townhall’s Jonathan Garthwaite (see great videos here), is actually a member of Hillary Clinton’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transexual Americans For Hillary Steering Committee. He’s also part of a film production crew trying overturn the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy.

From Brigadier General Bill Becker, United States Air Force, (Retired)

Gay keith spent his years as a reservist, solely in the state of California military bureacracy. His BIO IS PUBLISHED in the gay organization dedicated to voiding the “Don’t ask don’t tell” policy.

For details, you must note that Kerr was retired from the inactive Army Reserves in the grade of Colonel. With the exception of a few years served on active duty as a Lieutenant, his entire service was in the reserves in California. He was placed in retired reserve status with the California National Guard Reserves and promoted to Brigadier General in that federally unrecognized status.

This is considered an “honorary” title similar to the PHD awarded by Universities as honorarium. We would never refer to such awardees as “doctor”. It is also noteworthy that he was a graduate of UC BERKELEY and served as an instructor in academia. He has no combat experience during his 43 years of “service” and it is a disgrace for him to be associated by the media with the active duty military!!!!

Thanks for listening to the voice of wrath of this old military aviator.

Tax refunds could be delayed

How odd.

Congress has been dawdling all year on a tax bill, and as a result, millions of early filers could have to wait extra weeks for refunds that averaged last year at $2,291.

The Internal Revenue Service is looking hard at delaying the start of its filing season, set to kick off on Jan. 14, if Congress fails to pass legislation in the next two weeks. At issue is how to handle what could be a dramatic increase in the number of people facing a higher alternative minimum tax.

What it boils down to, is -approximately half of taxpayers with adjusted gross incomes in the $75,000-$100,000 range will be affected by the “Alternative Minimum Tax” this year; which is a huge tax increase.

The alternative minimum tax was passed in 1969 and was aimed at about 155 very wealthy families who used deductions to avoid paying any federal income tax. The AMT disallows certain deductions and credits. It was not adjusted for inflation; as a result, over the years it has hit a growing number of middle-income taxpayers.

More than 4 million were subject to it in the 2006 tax year, and that could soar to 25 million this year without congressional action.

We just need to go to the FAIRTAX and stop monkeying around with all of this.

‘Do you know who I am? I’m a big star, and I can look you up … blow you up’

It must be something they learn in “How to behave like a celebrity 101″; how to behave like a jerk. He attacked Courtney Scott, a student intern working as a reporter for the Savannah Morning News, with the above sentence in response to a simple question. Williams is promoting Partnership for Prescriptive Assistance’s Help is Here Express, which claims to have helped 4.5 million people get their prescriptions for free or close to that. Williams is their spokesman, who suffers from MS. He asked her if she suffered from any disease, and she answered “no”.

The question that ticked him off, was

“Do you think pharmaceutical companies would be discouraged from research and development if their profits were restricted?”

He responded angrily with:

“I’m here as a patient advocate talking about the fact that medications available today are saving people’s lives, that’s what saving mine and after that, this interview is done.”

Then he snapped his fingers, said “thanks” and terminated the interview.

Afterwards, Scott and two of her colleagues went into the Westin to do a story on gingerbread houses that were exhibited there. Montel approached them with his body guard, still incensed. Getting into Courtney’s face, pointing his finger, he said:

‘Don’t look at me like that. Do you know who I am? I’m a big star, and I can look you up, find where you live and blow you up.’”

At that point he was pointing his finger at all of them. He may have overreacted, but you will seldom see someone turn around and do what he’s done to ‘fix’ things.

Williams released a statement offering an apology and an invitation to his television program.

“I am really saddened by the incident that took place yesterday after such a glorious visit to Savannah to help patients in need. A series of unrelated personal events, including the highs and lows of my daily battle with MS, caused me to overreact to this situation.

However, I am not using that as an excuse for my behavior and I accept full accountability for my actions. Regrettably, I reacted childishly to the situation and for that I truly apologize to all concerned. I would like to invite Courtney and her family to appear on my show for a public apology.”

It was a reasonable question she asked…you have to wonder why he responded in the way that he did to a young lady. He should still answer the question, even if he used his disease as an excuse to behave badly and now makes a big production out of apologizing for it. It might be a ploy to get more attention on the pharmaceutical organization he represents.

I’d like to know how that organization gets medicine for people for free. We’re not a socialist form of government and he do not have national healthcare. So what’s the catch and how do they undercut the pharmaceutical companies? Won’t that cause damage down the road, just like Canadians selling American-made medicines back to Americans for a profit? America is footing the bill for part of their National Healthcare program by giving Canada Medicines under cost. No business can survive very long, doing that. The reason drugs are expensive here is because we are the only country in the world that develops new ones. That’s called Research and Development, which costs money. That is part of what’s embedded in the cost of medications and drugs here.

It’s unfortunate that people who want everything for ‘free’ only think of themselves. I don’t agree with someone traveling the country helping people to beat the system.

To my newest fan who is one of the first few to send me a trackback. Thank you so much. And please visit Che Mart, brought to you by the commie progressives at The People’s Cube.

Isn’t it wonderful that people from the other side of the aisle would give little ole’ me such great support?

They had some revolutionary news at the People’s cube – that Che Guevera was captured in a Baghdad raid. That’s right:

A report released by the Pentagon confirms rumors that popular international terrorist Ernesto Guevara, better known under the nickname “Che” has been captured in a safe house south of Baghdad, during a routine raid operation conducted jointly by the new Iraqi police and the US Marines. His identity was immediately established by comparing his face to one of the Che Guevara T-shirts that lay scattered around the safe house.

Don’t miss the image of Che on the burqas.

Mary Bomar’s fraudulent investigation

In April 2006, Park Service Director Mary Bomar ordered an internal investigation into claims that the planned Flight 93 Memorial is actually a terrorist memorial mosque, built around a giant Mecca-oriented crescent. Bomar’s investigation was a total fraud, concluding, for instance, that it isn’t possible to calculate the orientation of the crescent because the site-plan has not been geo-referenced. (Page 2, PP2 of September 2006 summary report. Page 1 here.)

In fact, the original Crescent of Embrace site-plan was drawn on a topo map that the Memorial Project provided to all participants in the design competition. A topo map is the epitome of a geo-referenced map. North marked on a topo map is true north, which is the only piece of information needed to calculate the orientation of the crescent. Just connect the tips of the crescent, form the perpendicular bisector, and calculate how many degrees it points from north (53.4).

Also known are the crash-site coordinates, which is all that is needed to calculate the direction to Mecca (55.2° clockwise from north). All of this is trivially easy to verify. Just use the Mecca-direction calculator at Islam.com to get a graphic of the direction to Mecca from the crash site and place it over the crescent site plan:

Giant crescent pointst to Mecca

Somerset PA is ten miles from the crash-site. The “qibla” is the direction to Mecca. Red lines show the orientation of the crescent. The crescent points 1.8° north of Mecca. (Click for larger image.)

A request for oversight

Because it is the director’s office that has been covering up the Mecca-orientation of the crescent, oversight can only come from Interior Secretary Dirk Kempthorne himself. Several people sent letters to Secretary Kempthorne two weeks ago, showing how the giant Mecca-oriented crescent remains completely intact in the so called redesign. But Mr. Kempthorne also needs to know that he is getting bad information from his subordinates in the Park Service. Thus a request for all readers of this post: if you have a minute, please copy and paste this entire post into an email for Secretary Kempthorne.

We don’t need for the secretary to understand all the terrorist memorializing features in the design, or the numerous proofs of intent that architect Paul Murdoch included so that his accomplishment will be undeniable once it is a fait accompli. It is enough that he be concerned about features that can be readily interpreted as terrorist memorializing, whether they are intended or not. As Congressman Tancredo put it: we need “a new design that will not make the memorial a flashpoint for this kind of controversy and criticism.”

But even getting to the most basic facts about what is in the present design requires getting past Mary Bomar’s fraudulent report, which tries to pretend that there is nothing that can even be interpreted as untoward.

Mary Bomar’s intellectually dishonest “experts”

In addition to claiming that topo maps are not geo referenced, Mary Bomar’s internal investigation cites a small number of academic experts, all of whom spout nothing but the most absurd non sequiturs. One is Dr. Daniel Griffith, professor of “geo-spatial information” at the University of Texas. About Alec Rawls’ analysis of the Mecca orientation of the giant crescent, Dr. Griffith writes:

… Mr. Rawls’s arithmetic calculations appear to be correct … [but] … just because calculations are correct does not make the resulting numbers meaningful.

Dr. Griffith’s point, it seems, is that the mere fact of Mecca orientation does not imply intent. Who said it did? The way Murdoch proves intent is by repeating his Mecca orientations (scroll down to the last section here). But intent is not the only thing that matters. Even without terrorist memorializing intent, it is inappropriate to plant a giant Mecca oriented crescent on the crash site.

The Memorial Project knows this, but it is committed to defending the crescent design, so it keeps using its doubts about intent as an excuse for denying the facts. Dr. Griffith, for instance, is telling every reporter who will listen that there is no such thing as the direction to Mecca. “Anything can point toward Mecca,” he told the Pittsburgh Post Gazette, “because the earth is round.” One billion Muslims face Mecca five times a day to pray, and Griffith pretends there is no such thing as facing Mecca!

Of course he knows better. The first thing that Griffith’s report does is calculate the direction to Mecca:

I computed an azimuth value from the Flight 93 crater site to Mecca of roughly 55.20°.

Dr. Kevin Jaques, specialist in Islamic sharia law from the University of Indiana, acknowledges that the Mecca-oriented crescent is similar to the mihrab around which every mosque is built, but says:

…just because something is ‘similar to’ something else does not make it the ‘same’.

Yes, well, similar–very, very similar–is exactly the problem.

Like Daniel Griffith, Mr. Jaques is trying to make hay of the fact that Mecca orientation does not by itself imply intent. So what? Intentional or not, it is unacceptable for the central feature of the Flight 93 memorial to be a geometric match for the central feature of a mosque. Jaques is pretending that the questions he raises about intent somehow make the facts irrelevant.

Professor Jaques also dismisses the likeness between the Mecca-oriented crescent and a traditional Islamic mihrab by noting that lots of religious structures have prayer-direction indicators, not just mosques:

The biggest hole in [Rawls’] argument is that all of the elements he points to are common architectural features that one would find in a church or synagogue. The mihrab originated in pre-Islamic buildings and can be found in temples, churches, and synagogues around the Mediterranean.

This is logic? Because Christian churches are often oriented to the east, that somehow makes it okay to build the Flight 93 memorial around a half-mile wide Mecca oriented crescent? If this is “the biggest hole in [Rawls’] argument,” then there are no holes in Rawls’ argument.

Project spokesmen know the truth, and are lying about it.

Memorial Project spokesmen have followed the lead of these academic frauds, using doubts about intent as a pretext for denying the facts. Asked about Rawls’ Mecca orientation claim, Patrick White, vice president of Families of Flight 93, denied it:

Rawls’ claims are untrue and “preposterous,” according to Patrick White, Families of Flight 93 vice president. “We went through in detail all his original claims and came away with nothing.”

In fact, Patrick White is fully aware of the Mecca orientation of the giant crescent. At the Memorial Project’s public meeting in July he argued that the almost-exact Mecca orientation of the giant crescent cannot be intended as a tribute to Islam because the inexactness of it would be “disrespectful to Islam.”

Joanne Hanley has done the same:

Alec Rawls bases all of his conclusions on faulty assumptions,” said Joanne Hanley, the superintendent of the Flight 93 National Memorial. “In addition, the facts are twisted and people are misquoted, all to serve his intended purpose.”

But she too has admitted the Mecca-orientation of the giant crescent, telling Mr. Rawls in a 2006 conference call that she wasn’t concerned about the almost-exact Mecca orientation of the crescent because: “It isn’t exact. That’s one we talked about. It has to be exact.” (Crescent of Betrayal, download 3, page 145.)

These are your subordinates Mr. Kempthorne. Please do not let them get away with this fraud. Congressman Tancredo is demanding answers from Director Bomar and many of us are hoping that you will do the same. There is not much time. Construction on Paul Murdoch’s terrorist memorial mosque is about to begin.

Sincerely,

[Your name]

Good questions…if at the very least, are thought-provoking.

Here are some of the questions that the media probably won’t ask the professional HIV/AIDS lobby, which grows ever fatter while the human tragedy rises:

Bush Announces Trip to Africa on World AIDS Day

• What have American taxpayers gotten for the $20 billion per year (and rising) government spending on HIV/AIDS?

What has happened to the more than half a billion condoms that the United States taxpayers have distributed to Third World countries during the past seven years,
Federal funding for HIV/AIDS has increased dramatically every year since 1993, yet the number of new infections has not declined. Why do we spend more money every year on prevention programs that have failed to prevent new infections?

  blog it

And there are more questions there, that are worth at least pondering. It’s disturbing that we throw money at things we don’t intend to really fix while dirty politicians and diplomats pocket that money.

It reminds me of George Galloway and the Oil For Food program.

Why do billions of dollars continue to flow to organizations and programs that have been a colossal failure by any yardstick?

• Why does the government spend far more on AIDS than cancer or heart disease, which each kill more than 10 times more people annually in the U.S.?

• After 25 years, why don’t the AIDS experts even know how many people are really infected? Just last week, UNAIDS admitted it had overestimated the global numbers by millions and CDC is expected to announce that it undercounted the number of U.S. cases by tens of thousands.

• Why is the onus on potential victims to take personal responsibility for having “safe sex” instead of the people who are already infected with HIV/AIDS, as is the case with other medical epidemics?

• Why are health officials in major cities like Washington, D.C., Chicago and San Francisco allowing the reopening of gay bathhouses, which facilitate the promiscuous sex that fuels the epidemic?

• With CDC statistics showing that HIV/AIDS in the United States is still astronomically higher among men who have sex with men (MSM), why are AIDS officials getting away with saying all Americans are equally at risk?

• Why have most of the media ignored studies, such as one in the American Journal of Public Health in June 2003 about a program among African-American female adolescents that reported that “17.8 percent of the adolescents acquired an STD despite 100 percent condom use.”

• With the District of Columbia this week reporting the highest per capita HIV/AIDS infection rate in the nation following years of condom promotion, why is the city planning to hand out at least 3 million condoms annually by 2009?

• Why does D.C. have 9 percent—nearly one in 10—of all U.S. pediatric AIDS cases, when the District has a population of only 580,000 in a nation of more than 300 million people?

It’s not really Chicago…Rockford is closer to the Wisconsin border. But anyway, Derrick Shareef, who wanted to throw a grenade into a crowded mall near Rockford, Illinois during Christmas of last year, was convicted at the end of November 2007. He was caught in 2006 through a sting operation when he tried to make an exchange for hand grenades and a gun for his planned attack on the Cherry Vale Mall in Rockford, Illinois.

From here and here.

Derrick Shareef was Hassan Abu-Jihaad a.k.a. Paul R. Hall’s room mate at one time.  Jihaad is a former U.S. Navy sailor.  Abu-Jihaad was charged in Phoenix with supporting terrorism by disclosing ship locations and plotting attacks.  His trial begins in Bridgeport, Connecticut in February, 2008.

Abbas is irrelevant to his own people, says Brigitte Gabriel, founder of American Congress for Truth. “Peace” efforts in the region have only resulted in more violence.

Isn’t that true of every “Peace” movement?

“They have done a mighty fine job without America’s involvement. It wasn’t until America started getting involved in Israel and twisting Israel’s arm into giving territories and concessions. I mean look, more Israelis have been killed after the Oslo accord of 1993 than the whole history prior since Israel got its independence. We cannot trust Mahmoud Abbas. [He] is nothing more than Yasser Arafat in a business suit.”

Israel needs to be allowed to protect itself without outside interference telling it to give more concessions to the already emboldened terrorists who fairly recently were allowed to invade and take over Gaza. We’ve already seen how responsibly that was handled; they VOTED IN HAMAS.

There will be no peace in the Middle East until terrorist stop their desire to push the Jews into the sea. And I doubt that will ever happen, being that diplomats want to play patty-cake with them. Playing into the hands of the fascist terrorists and inviting terrorists to the bargaining table as if they’re legitimate forces to be reckoned with is a serious mistake. A representative of the Sudan was there, a state that president Bush accused of genocide.

They are terrorists and should be treated as such…relegated to the trash bin of history and crushed with the same ruthlessness they use toward the ‘infidel’ and their misbehaving wives and children. If strength and dominance is what they understand, they should be met with it.

Otherwise…we’ll be living under sharia law.
