REPUBLICAN NEWS WATCH
(FROM THE ARTICLE:Senate Bill 35, legislation that would give every Republican a vote for their representatives on the Illinois Republican Party’s State Central Committee, passed out of the Illinois Senate today. The vote was unanimous (52 to zero). SB35 is identical to SB600, the number assigned to the bill in the previous General Assembly. Today’s vote is especially good news because while the direct election reform also passed out of the Senate by unanimous vote in 2005 – in 2009 during the prior General Assembly session, only eight Republican Senators voted “yes.” (It still passed that year overwhelmingly in the Senate.) Several more Senators had been supporters, but some were flipped shortly before the vote by pressure from a handful of selfish GOP bosses behind the scenes. Today we witnessed real positive progress. Our Republican officials are waking up. SB35 not only restores real democracy and accountability to our State Party – it doubles the size of the State Central Committee from 19 to 38. In other words, it doubles the chances for getting some real leaders for a change. Thank you to all the Illinois State Senators who stood-up for the Republican rank-and-file and voted “yes” to advance SB35 out of the Illinois Senate.
SB35 now moves to the Illinois House. For more information about SB35 (formerly SB600) see HERE.)
DAILY HERALD
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Sen. Chris Lauzen is again pushing plans that would have Republican primary voters pick the party’s state central committee, but the GOP establishment continues to push back. The Illinois Senate Friday approved the Aurora Republican’s idea, which would put candidates for the central committee on primary ballots. Democrats already follow that process. Republicans, though, give the power to pick central committee members to local GOP officials. Lauzen argues that because Illinois state government is controlled by Democrats at nearly every level, Republicans need to try something different. Letting primary voters choose party officials, he says, will help mobilize Republicans. “How we’re doing it now isn’t working,” Lauzen said. “Turn it back over to the people,” he added. The Illinois Republican Party has argued the manner they use to pick leaders is an internal decision that shouldn’t be affected by lawmakers. On Friday, party spokesman John Blessing said giving the choice to voters means candidates would have to run big-money campaigns to get elected. So, Blessing says, if Lauzen wants to make selecting central committee members a more grass-roots project, elections could have the opposite effect. “Direct elections would make it very costly for people to run,” Blessing said. Lauzen’s plan has been approved by the Senate before, but it’s always been contentious. On Friday, it was approved by a 50-0 vote. Lauzen said he talked to other Republican senators about the plan at a private party meeting earlier in the week. Still, Lauzen’s measure has never gained much ground in the House, which is where his proposal has moved now for further debate.)
(DIERSEN: Cherrington plans to deliver a speech at the rally. Last month, he created the Better Angels of Our Nature Foundation, a group he said is made up of people of several denominations and backgrounds. Since he introduced his idea, he said he has been on a tour of churches and mosques throughout the county as well as homeless facilities. “I have gotten some overwhelming response,” he said. “Every time I ask for help, they do.” One school board member says Cherrington’s vision is an inspired one but that the school district long ago promised to sell the property and place it back on the tax rolls. “We appreciate the sentiment and the laudable intention but we promised taxpayers that we would sell,” Rosemary Swanson said. “Clearly, our community has had a history of trying to help with the homeless. . .But we are moving forward with the process and keeping the promises we have made.” Community members from throughout the area have told Cherrington that they would attend the rally, and he said he expects a pretty sizable turnout. One of the rally’s main goals is to raise awareness, and Cherrington acknowledged the difficulty his ultimate plan faces. “I understand it will be more symbolic than anything,” he said. “But symbolism can be a very potent message.” “I have no choice but to be an optimist,” he said. “I have to see the good in people because I know what the other side is but there is nothing there for me. This whole generational thing of power over welfare, can we do something about it?”)
(DIERSEN: Because I am not a “yes-man,” I am not “politically connected.” Sadly, many candidates, elected officials, and party leaders in Illinois, in DuPage County, in Milton Township, and in Wheaton have made it very clear that if you are not a yes-man or a yes-woman, they do not want you anywhere near them.)
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Following an audit showing financial scandals from two DuPage County agencies, the Senate approved legislation Friday that would give county officials more oversight of financial transactions by the people they appoint. Sen. Susan Garrett, a Lake Forest Democrat who sponsored the measure, said the proposal would allow and encourage county chairs to demand financial reports and budget details from local agencies. . .The Senate approved by a 52-0 vote, and it now moves to the House. Garrett got help from Sen. Ron Sandack, a Downers Grove Republican, in sponsoring the plan. Garrett also has legislation that would require counties to post openings for agency positions in order to encourage community involvement and try to prevent politically connected people from holding every position.)

ALEDO TIMES RECORD
(FROM THE ARTICLE: RODNEY DAVIS, a staff member for U.S. Rep. JOHN SHIMKUS, R-Collinsville, is basically on campaign leave to help fashion a winning strategy for the state GOP in 2012 and beyond. Davis, 41, of Taylorville, generally works in Shimkus’ Springfield office and is paid $105,000 annually as projects director – handling grants, budget and personnel issues for all of Shimkus’ congressional staff. But last year, Davis ran that Republican National Committee “victory” program in Illinois, concentrating staff to work at once on a variety of races, from national to local. . .Davis said he’s still working part time – about 15 percent – for Shimkus’ government office, but at the request of state GOP Chairman PAT BRADY is now acting executive director of the party. He’s getting paid, however, by Shimkus’ political committee, Volunteers for Shimkus, and Davis said his overall pay remains about the same. Davis also lauded the work of the GOP’s deputy executive director, JOHN BLESSING, who is based in Chicago and keeps the day-to-day operations going as Davis works to raise money and try to build the state party structure. The idea is to bring the quality workers who were part of the success last year and will be again in 2012 “into the normal party operations,” including in non-election years. Davis does say it was a “huge disappointment” that his own state senator, BILL BRADY of Bloomington, lost his 2010 race for governor. Davis isn’t sure how long he’ll be working for the state party, but does plan to return to full-time status with Shimkus’ office. The previous executive director of the state GOP is CURT CONRAD, 38, of Springfield. He was with the party for nearly four years, part of the time as political director. He had been with state government for a dozen years earlier, including time as director of advance for then-Gov. JIM EDGAR and a legislative liaison for the Department of Central Management Services. He also worked at the Department of Natural Resources. Conrad joined the staff of state Treasurer DAN RUTHERFORD shortly after the Republican took the office this year and is director of technical and support services. He said the $99,000 annually he’s being paid is down from the $110,000 he was paid by the state party, but he was asked to help by Rutherford, and believes the treasurer “has a great future.”)

SUBURBAN LIFE
(DIERSEN: DuPage County would be the most healthy county in the state if Democrats and RINOs had not for many decades done everything they could to attract people to the county who have severe health problems and to keep them in the county.)
(FROM THE ARTICLE: A study published online March 30 by the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation said DuPage County was the second-healthiest county in the state. Neighboring Kane County ranked ninth on the list, and Cook County came in much lower at No. 70. According to the study, several measures were used to determine the rankings: length and quality of life, health behaviors, clinical care, social and economic factors and physical environment. The impact Some of the study’s highlights included the finding that 12 percent of people in the county reported poor or fair health. There was also a low motor vehicle crash death rate and a low rate of sexually transmitted infections per 100,000 people in the population. The study also determined that in terms of physical environment, DuPage County outranks the state in air pollution and access to healthy foods. Linda Kurzawa, president of the DuPage County Board of Health, attributed the improvement in physical environment to the high number of grocery stores and farmers markets throughout the county. “We are thrilled to receive this ranking, which is a testament to the services and programs we provide at the DuPage County Health Department,” Kurzawa said. “We will not take these rankings for granted and become complacent, rather we will continue the hard work we’ve undertaken over these last five years to ensure our residents have access to quality health care.” For more on the study, visit http://www.county healthrankings.org.)

That’s just not true, according to Republican U.S. Rep. Randy Hultgren of West suburban Winfield. “The entire time that we’ve been talking about this it’s that we have to reduce the size of the federal government. That’s what this is about. It’s about the money,” Hultgren said. “And for the Democrats to try and shift it off to something else, is just disingenuous.”)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: When Fernando Molina left central Mexico to move to Illinois, he was searching for affordable housing, job opportunities and established Hispanic neighborhoods with grocery stores, bakeries and clothing shops. He didn’t head for Chicago, a well-known magnet for Mexicans pondering the journey north. Instead, he settled in Aurora, about 40 miles to the west. “It’s like Mexico inside the United States,” said Molina, 37, a social worker who has lived in the U.S. for more than a decade and now assists other immigrant families. “You can find everything in the stores.” Over the last decade, tens of thousands of others have followed his path to Aurora – more than 35,000 of about 55,000 new residents between 2000 and 2010 were Hispanic. The city, which is now 40 percent Hispanic, has surpassed Rockford to become Illinois’ second-largest city. The trend of immigrants heading directly to American suburbs instead of starting in a major city intensified from 2000 to 2010 – and was one factor in Illinois’ 32.5 percent increase in Hispanic population in that period, according to recently released U.S. Census data.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: If you are attending college to get teacher certification, you will probably be required to attend classes on “multicultural education.” This is supposed to bring diversity to the classroom and prepare teachers to teach pupils of various ethnic or national backgrounds. The textbooks in these courses typically include Teachers as Cultural Workers by Paulo Freire, a Brazilian socialist who preached that society is divided into oppressors and oppressed. Other required readings teach that Americans are an institutionally racist society and are designed to train teachers to create political radicals to promote “progressive” social change. The monthly journal Education Reporter published an informative expose by a teacher who attended a conference on training teachers how to teach students what is called “social justice,” a code word for a specific type of teaching that is contrary to traditional American notions of justice based on individual rights. “Social justice” teaches children that America is an unjust and oppressive society that should be changed. Social justice materials typically include far left proposals such as acceptance of homosexuality, alternate lifestyles, radical feminism, abortion, illegal immigration, cultural relativism, and the redistribution of wealth. Social justice is often promoted through what is called “student-directed learning” because students are supposed to “construct” their own knowledge. These words put a new spin on what was previously called “unguided learning” or “minimal guidance learning.”)

But my liberal Democrat GAO superiors, supervisors, coworkers, and subordinates stressed that none of my direct ancestors on either my father’s or mother’s side fought for the Union. (FROM THE ARTICLE: When the Tea Party stormed on to the U.S. political stage in 2009, leaders of the right-wing populist movement insisted their one and only goal was to restore fiscal sanity to the federal government. Yes, they opposed Barack Obama’s health-care reform law. But that was because it required bigger government. They contended they had no hidden agenda. Their mission was all about fiscal, not social, conservatism. So how did a battle over a $3.6-trillion (U.S.) budget boil down to a fight over a meagre $75-million in funding for Planned Parenthood? A visitor to Washington on Friday could have been forgiven for thinking he had entered a time warp, reliving the days when the Moral Majority loomed over every legislative fight and abstinence programs were a cause célèbre on Capitol Hill. The culture wars, long thought passé with the decline of the Christian right and changing social attitudes, were back in the spotlight. Each time Democrats went before the cameras on Friday, they blamed the budget standoff that threatened to shut down the government at midnight on one issue: Republican attempts to slash funding for women’s health initiatives.)

- DIERSEN HEADLINE: David Von Drehle discusses why the Civil War was fought. Democrats and RINOs believe that a) White men alive today continue to benefit substantially from the “sins” of their ancestors, mainly from the Indian Wars, slavery, the War with Mexico (1846-1848), denying women the right to vote, and using the atom bomb on Japan, and therefore, b) White men alive today should pay for the sins of their ancestors and suffer the reverse discrimination of “Affirmative Action” and “Diversity.” To what extent do you directly benefit from the Indian Wars, slavery, the War with Mexico, denying women the right to vote, and using the atom bomb on Japan? How much do you owe minorities and owe women who are alive today? My liberal Democrat GAO superiors, supervisors, coworkers, and subordinates made it very clear that they believed I owed a lot. They argued that I owed minorities and women a lot because a) I was born White, b) I was born a male, c) my parents raised me and did not divorce, d) my parents sent me to grade school and high school, e) my parents provided me room and board during my first 2 years in college, f) my ancestors came to America during the 1840s while the Indian Wars were still going on, while slavery was legal in parts of America, before the War with Mexico, while women were denied the right to vote, and before America used the atom bomb on Japan. They seemed to give a lot of weight to when my ancestors came to America. They seemed to argue that the longer that your ancestors were in America, the more that you owe minorities and women. MINUTEMAN PAC
– Arizona Teacher Exposes Illegal Immigration in Classrooms http://www.minutemanpac.com
(FROM THE EMAIL: Substitute teacher Tony Hill unknowingly ignited a rhetoric bomb when he wrote a letter to Arizona State Sen. Russell Pearce, the legislator behind Arizona’s infamous SB 1070. This letter was read on the state Senate’s floor to support legislation requiring parents to prove their children are citizens of the United States before the children may enter school. The letter was written by Hill on March 15, 2011, after substituting at Harold W. Smith Elementary School. Wrote Hill: “During the Pledge of Allegiance I notice the vast majority of students refusing to stand and say the pledge. I asked the students why they refused to say the Pledge of Allegiance and they responded by saying, “we are Mexicans and Americans stole our land.” The teacher’s instructions were for the students to read a few pages and answer the questions regarding Mark Twain in their history textbook and to finish their final drafts to Senator Steve Gallardo thanking him for his position on Illegal Immigration rights. Their teacher apparently had showed them a video with Senator Steve Gallardo and Lou Dobbs. Most of the students came unprepared for class not possessing paper and pencil. I provided the students with paper and pencils only to have them wad-up the paper and throw it at each other along with their pencils. The students’ final drafts that I read were basically the same. Most of them stated they were in the country illegally, White Americans are racist, and that they came here for a better life. I asked the class if America adopted Mexico immigration laws would Americans still be consider racist? That question they could not answer and called me a racist for asking it. I mentioned that my wife and children are Hispanic so how could I be racist? I asked the students to stop speaking Spanish in class because it was impolite to speak a language in front of people who may not speak that language. Their response was that Americans better learn Spanish and their customs because they are taking their land back from us. When it came to completing the Mark Twain assignment only 10 students completed it out of all my classes. Most of the students refused to open the book, tore the pages out of the book, or threw the textbooks at each other. I thought are these the students we are trying to educate with taxpayers money. I have found that substitute teaching in these areas most of the Hispanic students do not want to be educated but rather [want to] be gang members and gangsters. They hate America and are determined to reclaim this area for Mexico. If we are able to remove the illegals out of our schools, the class sizes would be reduced and the students who wanted to learn would have a better chance to do so and become productive citizens.” “They hate America and are determined to reclaim this area for Mexico,” wrote Hill. Citizens, we need your help. This letter was the result of one substitute teacher’s day covering for an absent elementary teacher. Imagine how many other classrooms there are just like this at other elementary schools across the nation. And let’s not forget middle schools and high schools. Can you imagine the dangers posed to your child or children by having students like this in his or her classroom? I certainly don’t want my children educated alongside other students who already have the high aspirations of joining dangerous gangs affiliated with the Mexican cartels’ drug-trafficking and human-smuggling – all while they scorn a tax-payer funded education and the chance to better themselves. That money could be better spent educating American children who love our country, our values, and our way of life. But we have to act NOW! Fellow Patriots, please use this opportunity to join Minuteman PAC in sending a blast fax to Congress demanding they secure our borders, reform birthright citizenship, and mandate parental citizenship for a FREE education. As Washington squabbles today over the 2011 budget, we need to let them OUR representatives know exactly where they can save billions of dollars – by NOT providing a free education to the children of illegal immigrants. The American education system is funded by the taxes collected from citizens like yourself and I. It seems only right and just that these funds educate OUR children without the disruption and danger of having anti-American students with hopes to join Mexican-cartel gangs in the same classroom. Mr. Hill’s letter is a damning indictment of every elected official, and President Obama himself, who has stalled in pushing through real immigration reform and border security measures. Help us tell Washington just how sick and tired we are of career politicians supporting Amnesty measures in order to obtain those votes, while sacrificing every opportunity to secure the U.S.-Mexico border. Send your Blast-Fax to Congress Today! Now, more than ever before, we have to act. We must secure our border. We must secure our classrooms.)

Each and every morning, I send a GOPUSA ILLINOIS email to each and every GOPUSA ILLINOIS subscriber. If the email does not appear in your inbox, to view a copy of it, please visit: http://www.gopillinois.com. Also each and every morning, I post a link to that copy on the Illinoize page at http://www.capitalfax.blogspot.com and at http://www.facebook.com. Since January 1, 2005, GOPUSA ILLINOIS has brought to your attention 87,694 internet postings and information on many upcoming events free of charge and without any advertising. GOPUSA ILLINOIS asks that its subscribers use the information in the emails to help elect and reelect Republicans who can and will defend and advance the Illinois Republican Party platform.
Thanks,
Dave Diersen
