CAIR is still pursuing David Gaubatz and his son Chris through the court system, threatening to take their book Muslim Mafia: Inside the Secret Underworld That’s Conspiring to Islamize America – (Hardcover) off bookshelves and force the publisher to give CAIR all copies.
Lawsuits such as CAIR’s, and Daniel Parisi’s pursuit of Larry Sinclair to take “Barack Obama & Larry Sinclair: Cocaine, Sex, Lies & Murder” off bookshelves through the courts using an Obama-connected law firm, have the effect of chilling first amendment speech.
“Libel suits are the vehicle for this censorship, and they can be just as effective as government injunctions or physical threats,” Garbus wrote in the afterword to the re-publication of Matthiessen’s book in 1992.
“Even if lawsuits ultimately fail in court, they can be deadly,” Garbus wrote. “The cost, time, and harassment value of extensive litigation can compel publishers and authors to delete controversial passages from books critical of government officials and their policies.”
Sadly WND is only interested in the first amendment when it is one of their author’s or one of WND books where Joseph Farah has to defend it. Funny how Farah always asks WND readers to donate to defend WND.
